So what do we do? We’ve just talked about the fact that all these measures in dealing with the Corona virus and covid-19 have brought about this accelerated change, there’s so many things to choose. So the question we have to ask yourselves is the skills that we have? Still relevant in terms of achieving our goals or doing your work? I’ll give you an example. One of the things that I used to make a contribution was to conduct some face to face interviews, interviewing potential Chartered Surveyors so that we can decide if they are ready to practice as Chartered Surveyors and this with face to face interviews. But because of measure to deal with covid-19, these interviews had to be moved onto online platforms. So what it meant was I had to upgrade my skills in order to learn about these new technologies.
In other words, what had to be done is make sure that all assessors upgrade their toolbox or their tool kit. So in order to cope with all these changes, you and my friend might need to do some personal development so that you can upgrade your skills to deal with these changes. In the professions, they usually talk about continuing professional development, which recognizes that things always change, there are always some changes. So as a result, what they do as some sort of a blunt approach is to always have this continuing professional development. For those who are not part of some professions, what I would recommend is to do some personal development that is linked to your career objective or personal development that is linked to your financial objective or personal development that is linked to your health objective. How do we do this, we do these by a process of having some purposeful self education. I call it purposeful as opposed to a random self education by random self education. I mean, where you end up possibly watching some YouTube videos that might be some kind of personal development but are not linked to our primary objective.
So what we’re looking at is to have some personal development that is linked to our primary purpose or our primary objective. So we have something to do with our career, It could have something to do with finances. It could have something to do with our relationships. It could have something to do with our health. So you wanted to be purposeful, so what you might do is look at developing some kind of a curriculum or look at some models of people who are participating in the field that you are in, in order to come up with a curriculum or look at these sort of things that people in similar positions that are successful, not everyone, people in similar positions that are successful. What sort of models are they using? So what do you want to do is to craft that purposeful self education that is going to lead you to your goals? Now, with all this in mind, regarding all the changes that have taken place, regarding the facts that all of these changes are taking place so fast.
What I’ve done in these series, get ready for practice. What I do is I share my experience on how I’ve looked at and dealt with some of the changes. I share my experience, who is touched.
